Sauna and ice bath guidelines.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience with your wood-fired sauna and contrast therapy tub, please follow these guidelines.
Health and safety
Contrast therapy (alternating between intense heat and cold) has profound effects on circulation and heart rate. While generally safe, please consult your physician before use if you have heart conditions, high blood pressure, or circulatory issues.
- Hydration: Drink plenty of water before and after your session.
- Listen to your body: If you feel faint, dizzy, or unwell, exit the sauna or tub immediately.
- Avoid substances: Do not use the sauna or cold plunge while under the influence of alcohol or medications that impair temperature regulation.
- Illness: Do not use the equipment if you are currently unwell.
Sauna operation
- Preparation: Ensure the flue/damper is fully open and the ash box is empty. Always use the provided tool to operate the stove door and ash box.
- Starting the fire: Use kindling and small, dry, untreated wood. You may leave the ash box slightly ajar until the fire is established, then close it.
- Heating: Add larger logs and adjust airflow. It typically takes 45–60 minutes to reach 80–90°C. Do not exceed 100°C and never leave the stove door open during operation.
- Fuel: Use only dry, seasoned wood (moisture below 16%). Never use treated or painted wood, coal, pellets, plastic, rubber, household waste, or liquid fuels.
- Steam: Use only 2 to 3 scoops of clean, fresh water on the stones. Never use seawater. Ensure no one is standing near the heater when adding water.
- Fire safety: Never touch the heater or stones directly. Do not dry clothes in the sauna. Empty ash only when fully cool, into a non-combustible container.
Contrast therapy
The bathtub is designed for versatile temperature control.
- Ice bath mode: Water can be cooled to 0°C. Limit your exposure to a few minutes.
- Hot tub mode: Water can be heated up to 40°C for relaxation.
- Usage: Start with the sauna, then rinse in the shower to remove sweat before entering the tub. Always enter the water slowly, especially on cold settings.
Cleaning, care & deposit
- Cleaning: Return the unit in the same clean condition. Remove personal items and debris. A cleaning fee applies if professional deep cleaning is required.
- Damage: Customers are responsible for damage beyond normal wear and tear. Report issues immediately so we can keep the next guest safe.
- Deposit: A security deposit may be held at booking to cover cleaning or damage, refundable when the unit is returned in good condition.
Best practices for your session
- Shower before your first sauna session. Use the sauna 2 to 3 hours after a meal.
- Wear a sauna apron and protect your head with a towel. Lying down is often more comfortable than sitting.
- Use a bath broom to gently massage your body and stimulate circulation.
- Air-dry rather than using a towel, and do not use soaps or synthetic cleansers inside the sauna. Rehydrate with fresh water or herbal tea.
